Regional Advertising Fund (RAF)
Advertisers commonly use the A.D.I., which stands for Area of Dominant Influence, when discussing market places for electronic media. In its most basic form, an A.D.I. is defined by the Nielsen Company (the same company that surveys the viewing public) as an area covered by the same broadcast television signals. The Yellowwood Region currently has salons in the A.D.I's of Louisville, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Dayton, Evansville, Lexington, Terre Haute, Casper, Cheyenne, Gillette, Laramie, Rock Springs, Billings and Pittsburgh areas.

Each A.D.I. group may establish a Fantastic Sams Regional Advertising Fund (RAF) for electronic and non-electronic media within the A.D.I. Once an A.D.I. group has voted to establish the fund, all franchisees with open and operating salons within that A.D.I. pay into the fund at the rate voted by the owners in that area. For purposes of administering the funds, an A.D.I. group may also elect an Executive Committee and may establish rules and procedures for the use of the RAF. For instance, 85% of the RAF may be designated for electronic media and 15% for other, non-electronic media activities, such as a print advertising program. These funds are collected weekly by auto-draft and are administered by the Regional Support Center.

National Advertising Fund (NAF)
All Fantastic Sams salons contribute to the National Advertising Fund (NAF) on a weekly basis. These funds are collected by your Regional Support Center via auto-draft and are forwarded to Fantastic Sams National Advertising Fund, Inc. in Bartlett, TN a corporation set up for the sole purpose of administering the fund. Each year, beginning with the work week ending on the first Friday in August, the NAF fee is adjusted for inflation based upon the Consumer Price Index.

The NAF is designated by charter for use as follows: 85% for electronic media (television and radio), and 15% for administrative costs, including such things as the production of new television commercials, ad kits, and marketing kit supplements. In those A.D.I.'s advertising on television, 85% of NAF is returned directly to the A.D.I. to fund electronic media. When electronic media is not available in an A.D.I., accumulated NAF funds may be used to conduct alternative advertising programs within the area (such as radio or print advertising).
